So far the new year hasn’t exactly been pandering to Justin Bieber’s well-being. Over the weekend photos surfaced of the tween clean 20-year-old smoking marijuana inside his hotel room, sparked–possible pun–allegedly by YMCMB artist, Lil Twist’s bro pressure. Though the photos may have actually worked in Justin’s favor as a coming of age rite of passage, the story behind the hashtag movement #CutForBieber shows that young stanatics are not quite ready to let go of their prince.
In a disturbing effort to coax Bieber out of his new fondness for weed, fans tweeted pictures of razor blades to their bloody wrists with messages like “It hurts but I do it for my Justin” attached. However, according to Billboard, #CutForBieber started trending, initially as a joke started by prank message board, 4Chan. “Let’s start a cut yourself for Bieber campaign,” an anonymous user wrote. “Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because Bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves.” Yet there were those who didn’t get the joke, still participating anyway. Bieber himself has yet to tweet a statement regarding the mixed crusade.
