One of People en Español’s 25 most powerful women, Jenni Rivera, died early this morning in her homeland of Mexico after the plane she was flying crashed minutes after takeoff.
The 43-year-old was leaving a performance in Monterrey, Saturday night and was flying with four other passengers, including her publicist, lawyer, makeup artists and two pilots who all sadly perished. “The plane was totally destroyed. … It is a great tragedy,” her brother, Gustavo Rivera, told CNN en Español. As far as the reason behind the plane’s failure, evidence is still being collected and may take up to ten days for there to be an answer.
Known to fans as “La Diva de la Banda” or The Diva of Banda Music, Rivera, who’s sold over 20 million albums worldwide, was well established as a musical powerhouse and reportedly signed on recently to do a comedy pilot for ABC.
